waking up at dawn and following Zephyr the cat out the window
I’ve always woken up between 4:45 - 6ish.
Since I was a young lad, opening my eyes wide and ready for anything.
Uncontained and a little bit crazed as soon as I woke up.
When I was a young boy I’d do a run up and jump on my parents and ask them what was happening (very early in the morning).
Running down the hall like it’s an airplane runway
Leaping onto my parents.
Landing gear down/knees into their guts.
My pilot’s announcement: WHAT’S HAPPENING!!
Knees to the guts before the sun was up. Being a parent to a young child.
They told me to calm down and I was grounded with the most love they could give.
Even tied my door shut with a rope for a bit. Everyone needed a rest.
That was fine because I had a ball to throw against the wall to keep me occupied until they were ready for the day.
Seeing my cat Zephyr slink on past my bedroom window, winking at me from outside.
I climbed out my window and just wanted the freedom she had.
I walked, explored and played in my Streeton jungle garden.
Still to this day, I wake up early, wide-eyed and excited like the little Dug who climbed out that window to follow his Zephyr cat into freedom.
