swan jar - the best $25 ever spent

an ode to an ornament no one liked, that they will now be forced live with.

I saw you on Facebook marketplace and thought you were bizarre.

I had to have you.

Whether it was on my shelf, in a cupboard, on a bench…I just wanted to be looking at you from afar.

I picked you up from a Parkville terrace. $25 was all I spent.

Everyone thought you were ugly and wanted to break it.

But that made me love you even more.

No one liked you, except for me. 

When I am gone. I’d prefer you to keep it and not discard.

It’s a place for knick-knacks. Soy sauce and ginger packets, random USB cords, dog-poo bags and any trinket.

Maybe it can be a home to all of these, it could even be my urn.

Random things living together amongst my dust.
