dedication to aunt jennifer's tigers
Dedication piece to a poem that danced across my mind when I first read it.
A poem brought to me by Lynn via a tutor we were both guided by as kids.
When I read the lines “Bright topaz denizens of a world of green” it makes me smile and feel as though my imagination is lit up.
But I know after reading this poem near 100 times now, it needs to mean more than to bring me a smile.
Words that ask me think deeper beyond what I initially thought.
I’ve thought about it and read about what it means to the author.
Now it is your turn.
So here it is, Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers.
Aunt Jennifer's tigers prance across a screen,
Bright topaz denizens of a world of green.
They do not fear the men beneath the tree;
They pace in sleek chivalric certainty.Aunt Jennifer's finger fluttering through her wool
Find even the ivory needle hard to pull.
The massive weight of Uncle's wedding band
Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer's hand.When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie
Still ringed with ordeals she was mastered by.
The tigers in the panel that she made
Will go on prancing, proud and unafraid.
