a catch up with my neurosurgeon
A few weeks ago I caught up with my neurosurgeon.
Someone who has been awarded an Order of Australia medal, a wonderful human, the highest-skilled surgeon, my biggest medical advocate and now my friend.
My wheelhouse of legal counsel, business advisors and now a neurosurgeon.
An impressive bunch but that’s not why I like them.
Their souls are incredible, galvanising and most importantly, they have been very very good friends.
More luck than I thought I ever deserved.
My neurosurgeon advises me on my condition, I feel she knows me in a way like no one else can, how many others have seen my spine?
On my 31st birthday, she gave me non-curable cancer.
Wrapped up with a hug and the promise of a hard fight.
It was one of the best gifts I’ve received.
Embracing mortality brings a warm wave of clarity, love, peacefulness and a sense of being truly free.
When we caught up. I asked, “Any other recorded cases?”.
“No other recorded cases yet”.
Smiling I said, “Still number 1”.
We laughed.
Hard moments can turn into beautiful smiles and laughter.
We are all unique, We are all individually 1 in 8 billion.
I’ll also go down in the medical journals as a 1 in something-staggeringly-stupid-million.
To embrace what’s ahead, live and be free.
To die smiling, fighting, eyes wide open and in peace.
I am so glad that it gets to be me.
P.s. Thank you for coming and visiting me at PMCC. It made my day that you made the time for me to sit and have a chat.
